Cycling

The area is not all about Alton Towers, Drayton Manor, and the Potteries, cycling is hugely popular in the area from large cycle clubs down to occasional leisure riders.

The main towns, Stoke on Trent and Stafford are not particularly cycle friendly but there is still plenty of scope to enjoy your bike.  From the Peak District climb to 1519ft (463m) up to Flash, the highest village in the UK, to a peaceful ride along a canal tow path or through the woodland at Cannock Chase. For the less serious cyclist there are many pubs to break your journey and your thirst

Cannock Chase alone has 17 marked trails of varying degrees of difficulty but all best experienced on a mountain bike, some great for families and others for experts.

Below we have provide several links to local cycling resources to help you choose a route that suites your skill and energy levels. Many of the routes are motor vehicle free but many are also popular with walkers

Staffordshire County Council have produced several route maps to help you plan your cycling, they produce a Cycling Journey Planner
